Clubs and Activities

• Mission: To foster a love of chess, strategic thinking, and sportsmanship among students of all skill levels in grades 7-12.
• Target Audience: Students in grades 7-12 of all chess skill levels.

We meet every Monday and Wednesday, in the Library, from 3:35 - 4:15.

We will be reading novels that have gone on to be made into movies and the three novels we have chosen are:

• Anne Frank: The Story of a Young Girl by Anne Frank
• Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Vern
• And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

After reading each novel we will watch the movie and then have discussions of what we have noticed that is the same, different and which version we preferred.

Our club is organized in two sessions along the week: Mondays where students bring their own readings. We have 10 minutes for individual reading time and then, we talk to the others about our story. We have a conversations and comments about the stories. On Wednesdays, I am using the book “Donde habitan los ángeles” This is a book where my students are learning about Hispanic Culture, mainly from Mexico. We read together and then, I have activities for checking comprehension and explain the cultural elements in each chapter.
